Trend Watch : Modern Hollywood Glamour

In recent years many have considered modern interior design to mean white walls, sparse living environments with cleverly hidden storage and zero clutter. And although still a popular look, it has never been entirely practical for the family home!

This year we will see an increase in creating luxurious interiors. Dark walls teamed with metallic finishes and deep colours to give that moody Hollywood Glamour feel to the room. Still incorporating that timeless combination of black and white, these schemes feel far more welcoming and user friendly (child friendly) spaces. Here are a few of my main tips:

Lacquered finishes are used in abundance. Hollywood Glamour is all about using your home as a showpiece so make it shine! Make sure to include lots of luxurious fabrics…velvet upholstery, silk lampshades and deep, soft rugs mark this design style. Be careful of scale when choosing furniture, the emphasis is not on individual pieces but the feeling they create when eclectically arranged together. Accessorise with a mix of classic and modern items, don’t be afraid to include vibrant colour pieces and of course lots of metallic finishes. And finally keep in mind the era of Hollywood Glamour and the Glitz of the lifestyle it represents. These spaces are more about people and relationships than they are about the 42” flat screen!
