Vessel Gallery–Celebration at the Dorchester

In honour of the SBID international Awards Ceremony 2013 at The Dorchester Hotel, art glass specialists Vessel Gallery, have been asked to curate an exclusive exhibition of exquisite centre pieces. All artworks have been created by hand for the occasion, in an exemplary array of glass techniques by some of the best studio artists and designers currently working within the UK. Their collective achievements bring together one of the largest independent glass displays shown this year.

The criteria for all those invited to participate, was essentially to have a British connection. Either having trained in the UK or currently living here, ultimately Vessel Gallery’s objective is to shine a spot light on the unprecedented technical expertise, design and innovation in contemporary glass making, from the very best of Britain’s talents, producing master pieces that are collected worldwide.

Vessel Gallery are very proud to collaborate with SBID and curate this highly anticipated series of masterpieces for the most prestigious event in the Design Industry’s calendar, right here in the heart of London, the creative capital of the world. Following this exclusive launch all pieces will be exhibited at Vessel Gallery until the 31st December 2013.

The centre piece on our table isn’t included in the list above but was breathtakingly stunning and admired by both us and our guests.

Reminiscent of a sea urchin the piece was entirely made from individual glass drops creating a spiked ball shaped form. With the combined effect of the surrounding candles and the mirrored plate below the piece shaped beautiful colour and light effects dancing on the table.

Matthew Williamson’s signature motif is given a new exotic interpretation with the use of tiny beads.

This collection caused a stir in the office as soon as the first piece of press arrived, with its bold nature inspired prints and excitingly vibrant colour combinations. It is always very interesting to witness the clash between fashion and interiors, then awe at the resulting genius!

“Matthew Williamson is internationally renowned for his signature aesthetic; a master of print, embellishment, attention to detail and kaleidoscopic colour. His collections reflect a refined yet spirited sense of glamour inspired by global and artistic influences.

A graduate from the prestigious Central Saint Martins college, Matthew Williamson showed his critically acclaimed debut collection ‘Electric Angels’ in 1997. Celebrating 15 years in fashion last year, the brand’s inimitable style has long appealed to both celebrities and industry insiders alike and counts long-time friend Sienna Miller amongst its many devotees.

Matthew Williamson’s love of colour, pattern and texture has been paired with Osborne & Little’s savoir faire in furnishing fabrics and wallpaper.” – www.osborneandlittle.com
